Cheese

Cheese Blends

Two or more types of cheese, blended or mixed together. Often sold as multiple types of shredded cheese mixed together and sold in a resealable bag. Other options include cheeses that are blended together and sold as a block.

Cheddar Blend Cheese

A blend of different types of shredded cheddar cheese, often including white cheddar, mild cheddar, and sharp cheddar.

Italian Blend Cheese

A blend of shredded white cheeses, typically based in mozzarella and parmesan, but sometimes includes other cheeses such as provolone, asiago, or romano.

Marble Cheddar Blend Cheese

Marble cheese is a name given to cheeses with a marbled pattern. Marble cheddars is a mix of white and orange cheddar, generally sold in a block, rather than shredded and sold in a bag.

Mexican Blend Cheese

A blend of shredded cheeses intended to be used in Mexican food that includes monterey jack, asadero, cheddar, and queso quesadilla cheeses.

Taco Style Cheese

A blend of finely shredded cheeses with taco seasoning. Cheeses may include cheddar, monterey jack, and asadero.

Cheese Snacks

Cheese options that are marketed and sold to be consumed as individual snacks. Many are wrapped individually, such as a cheese stick or a single cheese wedge.

Cheese Cracker Sized

Pre-sliced cheese sized for crackers. Sold in sets that may include a single cheese type or a variety of different cheeses. Often referred to as “cracker cuts”.

Cheese Curds

Moist pieces of curdled milk, either eaten alone as a snack or used in prepared dishes. After milk clots in cheese making process, it is cut into cubes and pressed to create the curds themselves.

Cheese Sticks

Long, thin rectangular pieces of cheese, intended to be eaten as a snack. Often sold in packs of individual sticks. Cheese types include colby-jack, pepper jack, cheddar, and more.

Spreadable Single Cheese Wedges

Soft cheese packaged in individual wedges. May be eaten by itself as a snack or spread onto a cracker or bread. Often sold in a pack of several wedges that comprise a complete round.

String Cheese

Low moisture mozzarella cheese packaged and sold in long, thin pieces. Often sold in packs of individual sticks. Often eaten by peeling pieces of cheese, creating “strings”.

Fresh Firm Cheese

Cheese is fresh in its youngest, purest form, meaning it hasn’t been aged. Its flavor is usually mild. Fresh firm cheese has been heated or pressed to make it more concentrated and compact.

Hard Cheese

Hard cheese is dense, savory, and firm. In production, most of the liquid is drained, then the cheese is pressed, and finally aged. Hard cheeses are aged the longest of any cheese type.

Semi-Hard Cheese

Semi-hard cheese is firm and slightly springy in texture. In production, most of the liquid is drained, then the cheese is pressed, and finally aged. Semi-hard cheeses are aged for less time than hard cheeses, usually between one and six months. Some semi-hard cheeses receive an outer coating of wax.
